Assingment for Days

Dear Prof.Jeff,

Today, I would like to say something about the article “Factors Predicting Effective Oral Presentations in EFL Classrooms” of Junko Otoshi on Asian Journal.

The article mentioned to Japanese students but I like it and find many things like in Viet nam so I want to write about this.

In Viet nam the speaking skill is not good in many cases, students can’t say want they want and the abilities of speaking is not good. I think it is very nescessary to pay more attention and find or apply new methods in teaching and learning speaking skill of English. Reading the article, I like 2 tables a lot because they are very worth and necessay for teaching and learning English. Some tasks and techniques in two tables I never do but I find they are good and worth for teachers and students in developing the speaking skill. Using technologies in oral presentation is one aspect of teaching and learning language. The technologies play an important role in EFL presentation classes. As the article, teachers and students can evaluate the oral presentation. In the oral presentation the presenter can use body  language, eye contact to the audience and powerpoint presentation to connect the audience. The presenter can understand what the audience more interested in and change the ways to present.

I have taken part in some oral presentations using high technologies. I find that they are more attractive and colorful so I want to learn and to do like that. But in fact, I haven never used high technologies in oral presentation and teaching. I only use body language, eye-contact in oral presentations or teaching. Reading the article I know more about using high technologies in oral presentation not only body language. Applying technologies in teaching English, oral presentation and evaluation presentation will reach higher achievements. But for me it is new, first I have to learn how to use technologies effectiely in using for presentation, learning, and teaching in the future.

I know that there are some diffirent between countries such as Japan in the article and Vietnam. I am sure that both teachers and learners have to learn more, apply technologies in EFL classes effectively. I myself am trying to do that in this course and in future teaching at school.

Thank you for your help.

Yours truly,

Son.

about using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills

Dear Prof.Jeff Lebow,

I already read unit 7 and 8 about using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills, I would like to say something about that.

I know using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills is very good and convenient. I think it is helpful for both teachers and students in teaching and learning. Using technologies, teacher can design many tasks or exercises for students to do in a lesson. If the teacher uses a computer and OHP in teaching the lesson will be more colorful and attractive. The teaching talking time of the teacher can be reduced, students have more time to interact to others and teacher. It will be easy for students to understand the tasks by clicking mouse of the teacher. Many visual aids are used to explain and give models for students. Students will be really attracted by active pictures, photos and sounds…the teacher will find it is easy to apply or change the methods and techniques for suitable classes or groups of students.

In unit 7 and 8, I find a lot of good points of using technologies to teach reading and writing skills. They are very fitted with the communicative approach of teaching and learning today. I think the teacher should always find and update the knowlegde, methods and techniques in teaching 4 skills not only reading and writing.

I myself always expect and hope to use and apply technologies to teach English at school but I still wait and wait…because my schools as almost secondary schools in Vietnam have no technologies for teaching. We don’t have any opportunities to use and apply teachnologies in teaching and learning. At my school there are only two cassettes for teaching listening with some pictures for others 5 recent years. That is reason why computer and internet are strange to many teachers in remote areas. I have a computer and I try to design some teaching lessons by powerpoint, they sounds good and helpful but I don’t have chances to demonstrate them because we don’t have OHP and screen. My students are at the age of teen and at the beginner level so it will be very excellent if we use technologies to teach but we can’t. in Vietnam only some high schools in the city center, colleges and universities have used technologies to teach English. It is the reason why the education in secondary and high schools in Vietnam develop slowly.

In this course, I expect learning how to design, use and apply new methods and high technologies in teaching English at school. I hope and I am sure that in some coming years my school and others will be equiped many high and modern technologies for teaching and learning not only English but also other subjects. I hope using high technologies to teach all English skills to reach higher and higher achievements in teaching English. I hope I myself is the first footer in using and applying high technologies to teach at my school.

After this course, please help me if I have any problems in using teachnologies to teach English at school.

Thank you very much for your help now and then.
