Dear Prof.Jeff,
Today, I would like to say something about the article “Factors Predicting Effective Oral Presentations in EFL Classrooms” of Junko Otoshi on Asian Journal.
The article mentioned to Japanese students but I like it and find many things like in Viet nam so I want to write about this.
In Viet nam the speaking skill is not good in many cases, students can’t say want they want and the abilities of speaking is not good. I think it is very nescessary to pay more attention and find or apply new methods in teaching and learning speaking skill of English. Reading the article, I like 2 tables a lot because they are very worth and necessay for teaching and learning English. Some tasks and techniques in two tables I never do but I find they are good and worth for teachers and students in developing the speaking skill. Using technologies in oral presentation is one aspect of teaching and learning language. The technologies play an important role in EFL presentation classes. As the article, teachers and students can evaluate the oral presentation. In the oral presentation the presenter can use body language, eye contact to the audience and powerpoint presentation to connect the audience. The presenter can understand what the audience more interested in and change the ways to present.
I have taken part in some oral presentations using high technologies. I find that they are more attractive and colorful so I want to learn and to do like that. But in fact, I haven never used high technologies in oral presentation and teaching. I only use body language, eye-contact in oral presentations or teaching. Reading the article I know more about using high technologies in oral presentation not only body language. Applying technologies in teaching English, oral presentation and evaluation presentation will reach higher achievements. But for me it is new, first I have to learn how to use technologies effectiely in using for presentation, learning, and teaching in the future.
I know that there are some diffirent between countries such as Japan in the article and Vietnam. I am sure that both teachers and learners have to learn more, apply technologies in EFL classes effectively. I myself am trying to do that in this course and in future teaching at school.
Thank you for your help.
Yours truly,
Son.

Dear Prof.Jeff,
I would like to say something about three articles I have read. Three articles are on the webside: www.asian-efl-Journal.com/2008-spipathum-Noom-ura.phd-22k in the articles 4, 5, 6.
Athough three articles have different contents but they all mention to the things that I am interested in. The article 4 is about oral presentation, the article 5 is about English for Internet and the article 6 is about mentoring English language teachers. I am sure that I am interested in these articles because of three reasons below:
First, before being a teacher of English the trainees have to practise and make a lot of oral presentation. This makes the teachers confident and natural in teaching. Moreover, this the chances for the trainees to practise applying modern technologies in teaching for example: using a powerpoint presentation. I myself need to do it and try to use powerpoint in teaching English at my school.
Second, internet is very necessary for teachers and students in teaching and learning. Everyone knows the benefits of internet but in Vietnam Internet is strange to some teachers and students. There are a lot of remote areas in Vietnam where there is not internet. I myself don’t use internet very often because of this reason. In this course I really want to learn a lot about teaching and learning English for internet and using internet perfectly for teaching English at my school in the future.
Finally, mentoring English language teachers as us is very important for us. As I write above we have a few chances to use the internet so I find it is difficult to learn this course. All things seem to be new and strange to us. We all need you help us a lot and we always need a technican to guide us derectly at the lab. In Vietnam the speed and service for internet is not good, sometimes we can’t be online and sometimes there is no signal…they are all reasons why sometimes we can’t contact to you. On the other side, the computers and equipments for using internet are not good.
In conclusion, three reasons above make me more interested in three articles. They are all things I always need for my learning and teaching English now and then. I always worry about my lesson in this course because 2 days learning I try to do all the tasks but sometimes it is difficult to achieve.I know I have to try my best to apply all the tasks but I need a lot of help from you, please help me more.
Thank you very much and best wishes to you and your family.
Yours truly,
Son (Ngo Quoc Son)

Dear Prof.Jeff,
I am happy to tell you that I feel better in learning I think my learning step by step improve.
On the first day of learning with computer I do nothing except registered skype. Yesterday I found it was very difficult to learn but today I find a bite better. I have already do some of your tasks: I already check the class roster, complete the Computer Question Survey and register at Del.icio.us. I learn and know more about using internet.
But there are some tasks I can not do such as: Discuss Updated Course Objectives and Assignments, Preparing Computer-based Learning Materials, Creating a list of websites and online resources Creating a Website, Practice Saving Files from Websites…because I can not find “save link as…” maybe I am in wrong directions I will have to try much and much tomorrow. Sometimes the computers and the internet access don’t work, we manage to link with internet but not. The OHP is not working, too all the equipments here in the lab are old and bad. At home I don’t have internet so I do nothing and at school I never have chances to use high technology in teaching English. I am sure that the internet in Vietnam is very bad because sometimes we link you but we can’t hear your voice. There is no technician to help us with the technology…
As you know using internet is strange to some of us and others know a little. I read the tasks and find they sound very interesting and helpful to us. But we day by day applying it and using it in teaching and learning more effectively.
Please give the tasks each day for us to practice it we are always trying best and eager to use internet perfectly.
Thank for your a lot of help.
Best wishes to you and your family.
Yours truly,
Son.

Assingment
about using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills
Dear Prof.Jeff Lebow,
I already read unit 7 and 8 about using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills, I would like to say something about that.
I know using technologies to teach Reading and Writing skills is very good and convenient. I think it is helpful for both teachers and students in teaching and learning. Using technologies, teacher can design many tasks or exercises for students to do in a lesson. If the teacher uses a computer and OHP in teaching the lesson will be more colorful and attractive. The teaching talking time of the teacher can be reduced, students have more time to interact to others and teacher. It will be easy for students to understand the tasks by clicking mouse of the teacher. Many visual aids are used to explain and give models for students. Students will be really attracted by active pictures, photos and sounds…the teacher will find it is easy to apply or change the methods and techniques for suitable classes or groups of students.
In unit 7 and 8, I find a lot of good points of using technologies to teach reading and writing skills. They are very fitted with the communicative approach of teaching and learning today. I think the teacher should always find and update the knowlegde, methods and techniques in teaching 4 skills not only reading and writing.
I myself always expect and hope to use and apply technologies to teach English at school but I still wait and wait…because my schools as almost secondary schools in Vietnam have no technologies for teaching. We don’t have any opportunities to use and apply teachnologies in teaching and learning. At my school there are only two cassettes for teaching listening with some pictures for others 5 recent years. That is reason why computer and internet are strange to many teachers in remote areas. I have a computer and I try to design some teaching lessons by powerpoint, they sounds good and helpful but I don’t have chances to demonstrate them because we don’t have OHP and screen. My students are at the age of teen and at the beginner level so it will be very excellent if we use technologies to teach but we can’t. in Vietnam only some high schools in the city center, colleges and universities have used technologies to teach English. It is the reason why the education in secondary and high schools in Vietnam develop slowly.
In this course, I expect learning how to design, use and apply new methods and high technologies in teaching English at school. I hope and I am sure that in some coming years my school and others will be equiped many high and modern technologies for teaching and learning not only English but also other subjects. I hope using high technologies to teach all English skills to reach higher and higher achievements in teaching English. I hope I myself is the first footer in using and applying high technologies to teach at my school.
After this course, please help me if I have any problems in using teachnologies to teach English at school.
Thank you very much for your help now and then.

Dear Prof. Jeff,
I already study units 5, 6 and 9 and now I would like to say something about my teaching lessons and the future applying the unit 5 “Using Technology to Teach Listening Skills”.
First, I am a teacher at a secondary school in the countryside in Viet nam. At school I often teacher listening skill every two weeks. There is one listening lesson each unit and others for reading, writing, speaking and PPP lessons. There are 5 – 6 periods each unit. So I usaully teach listening skill as other skills very often. In the teaching listening lessons, I always use a cassette, a disc or a tape and some other visual aids as teaching aids. In each lesson I usually divide it into three parts: pre/while/post listening. Each part I often use different techniques for teaching. The technologies I want to mention here is only a cassette and some other pictures. I don’t have chance to use computers for teaching and learning. There are two computers at school but they only use for writing documents, not for teaching and learning. Our teaching plans are almost written by handwriting. It is difficult to use computers for teaching and learning at my school some coming years.
Next, I study and know all the benefits of using computers and technologies to teach listening skills and other skills. I always like to do that but I am sure that in some years we can not do that in teaching English at school. After this course I will persuade the leaders of school to invest for high technologies in teaching and learning. Now I think I have try my best to learn as much as possible about using and applying technologies in teaching English. I am sure one day I can use all knowledge of this course for using modern technologies for teaching English at my school. I never try to use technologies for teaching English but I imagine what I need to do so I will try to do it in the near future.
In conclusion, I understand and know what to do and use technologies to teach English skills with all the advantages of it. I really want to do it now but we don’t have any chances to do it now. I really hope some days I can do that. After this course I will design some teaching lessons but I know alittle now. I am trying best in this course for future applying and using Technology to Teach Listening Skills.
I always need a lot of your help. Thank you very much.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Son
